iCareLIS

Brief

We have developed and implemented the Laboratory Information System with Machine Integration (MiLIS) for the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL). The system has radically improved the sample reception and registration process, sample testing, results entry, sample testing report management, and laboratory report generation. The current benefits of MiLIS are reduced clerical work and workload, reduced transcription errors through instrument integration, better management of sample testing operations, and timely reporting. The MiLIS has improved sample flow and quality control management by enforcing standard workflow and ensuring procedures are always followed. Impact & Output

The LIS is up and running at National Public Health Laboratory. So far, the system has registered 12,172 samples, of which 5,156 of samples were accepted and 7,016 are in a queue under review. The integrated LIS system has positively impacted the electronic delivery of laboratory services at NPHL in Tanzania, enabling timely and efficient sample processing, tracking, emailing results to clients.
