Dr Diana Rwegasira

Bio

Dr Diana Rwegasira is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). Her academic and professional interests span digital health systems, educational technologies (EdTech), innovation, entrepreneurship, and the application of information systems to support service delivery in low- and middle-income settings.

She holds a PhD jointly awarded by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania, and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and Information Technology from UDSM (2004–2008) and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Eastern Finland (2010–2011).

Dr Rwegasira plays a key leadership role at the UDSM DHIS2 Lab, where she serves as the lead for the implementation of the iCare Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. In this role, she oversees system deployment, customisation, and capacity-building activities, while fostering collaboration between students, academic staff, and health sector stakeholders. Through the DHIS2 Lab, she also leads initiatives that engage undergraduate students in applied research, final-year project development, and hands-on practical training in digital health systems, including EMRs and health information platforms.

Her work emphasises experiential learning, student mentorship, and the practical application of computer science skills to address real-world challenges in healthcare and public sector systems.
