Agricultural Routine Data System (ARDS)

Summary

UDSM DHIS2 Lab through the JICA Technical Cooperation Project for Capacity Development for the ASDP Monitoring and Evaluation System, Phase II, has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Cooperatives to design and implement a web-based application (ARDS Web Portal), with the aim of improving the usability of the ARDS database application for sustainable data collection, synchronization, analysis and use for evidence-based decision-making in the agricultural sector. The development of the ARDS Web Portal then proceeded with the ARDS-LGMD2 upgrade, i.e., the lab was contracted to upgrade the existing desktop database application (ARDS-LGMD2) into a web-based data entry integrated into the web portal. The upgrading of the system was completed in February 2015, followed by training and rollout for the entire country, whereby further refinements were done based on user feedback.

Impact & Output

The rollout of the system was completed in March 2015. To date, the system is rolled out and operational in all regions and districts/councils in Tanzania Mainland. Agricultural routine data collected from villages/wards is sent to the district level, entered into the system for analysis and reporting to higher levels (www.ards.go.tz.)
