Customization of eRegistry Android App

Summary

This collaborative project aimed to enhance the app’s usability on tablet devices for a point of care clinical decision support tool in DHIS2 Tracker, that required a better use of the wider tablet screen. The DHIS2 capture app was customized to provide a 3-panel layout in landscape mode, which made it possible for health workers to see simultaneously full details of the client, the data entry screen, and the feedback widget where they were provided with clinical guidance based on the WHO Digital Adaptation Kit (DAK) for Antenatal Care (ANC). This adaptation was designed to support a transition from paper registers to an interactive eRegistry for ANC for midwives in Uganda.

Impact & Output

The pilot study indicated significant improvements in user experience on tablet devices, especially regarding navigation efficiency and mental mapping between tracker and event data. Feedback from users indicated notable satisfaction with the integration of the ANC registry, demonstrating the app’s effectiveness in facilitating person-centered health monitoring. The successful integration of these enhancements into the core DHIS2 Capture app, including the ANC registry features adhering to WHO DAK standards was a great milestone for the project.
