Systems Developer

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), through the UDSM DHIS2 Lab, has supported the design and implementation of open-source DHIS2 and other digital health solutions in Tanzania for over 20 years. The department invites talented 2026 CoICT final-year students to apply for a contractual engagement as a Systems Developer under the UDSM DHIS2 Lab.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Participate in software architecture design and code reviews
  • Develop high-quality and reliable software systems
  • Develop product prototypes
  • Develop information systems and application software
  • Write unit and integration tests to ensure software quality
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and organise development activities
  • Critically read and write technical documents

Desirable academic qualifications

Final-year students undertaking a Bachelor of Science degree in:

  • Computer Science (BSc CS)
  • Computer Engineering and Information Technology (BSc CEIT)
  • Business Information Systems (BSc BIT)
  • Telecommunication Engineering (BSc ET)
  • Electronic Science (BSc ES)
  • Electronic Engineering (BSc EE)

Key qualifications

  • Proven skills and experience in software development
  • Knowledge of different programming languages, frameworks, and development methodologies
  • Full stack development knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge and experience with software version control tools
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing requirements
  • Excellent analytical, creative-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience developing and implementing information systems

Added advantages

  • Ability to travel upcountry when needed and flexibility on working hours
  • Evidence of ability to produce working software, with a GitHub reference
  • Knowledge of or experience with digital health systems
