UDSM DHIS2 Team Plays a Key Role in the National Rollout of the ECD Dashboard

From January 6th to 9th, 2025, the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, in collaboration with UNICEF, conducted a four-day training session in Iringa Region aimed at rolling out the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Dashboard across three regions and 19 councils (Mbeya, Iringa, and Njombe). This initiative is a crucial part of the National Multisectoral Early Childhood Development Program, which focuses on the holistic development of children aged 0-8 years.

The active participation of the UDSM DHIS2 team played a vital role in ensuring the seamless integration of the ECD Dashboard with the DHIS2 platform and other existing systems, enabling real-time tracking and analysis of key child development indicators.

Empowering Government Officials with Data-Driven ECD Management

The UDSM DHIS2 team was instrumental in demonstrating the technical capabilities of the ECD Dashboard and how it integrates with multiple data systems, including:

✅ Health Management Information System (HMIS-DHIS2) – Tracking child health indicators and ensuring smooth data interoperability.
✅ Most Vulnerable Children Management Information System (MVC-MIS) – Supporting data collection for child protection and safety initiatives.
✅ Education Management Information System (EMIS) – Incorporating data on early learning opportunities.
✅ Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation System (iMES) – Enhancing cross-sectoral data utilization.

Through hands-on training, real-time demonstrations, and interactive exercises, the UDSM DHIS2 team ensured that government officials could navigate the dashboard, analyze data effectively, and generate insightful reports for decision-making at the council, regional, and national levels.

Driving Change Through Data: UDSM DHIS2 Team’s Impact

The participation of the UDSM DHIS2 team in this initiative marks a significant step toward leveraging digital solutions for childhood development monitoring in Tanzania. By ensuring that the ECD Dashboard is interoperable, user-friendly, and data-driven, the team is helping government stakeholders bridge gaps in service delivery, track progress, and make informed decisions to improve child welfare programs.

The UDSM DHIS2 team remains committed to supporting the long-term implementation and enhancement of the ECD Dashboard, ensuring that Tanzania’s future generations receive the best possible start in life through data-driven policy and program implementation.
