Dr. Honest is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam Department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research and consultancy areas are Information & enterprise Systems and Digital Innovation for Development and his specific areas of focus are: IS implementation for sustainable impact, IS design for data use, integrated information infrastructure, digital innovation management, health informatics, and IT-enabled Business process engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems (University Oslo, Norway in 2006), a Master of Science in Technical informatics (the Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands in 2001), a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) (University of Dar es Salaam in 1998). He served as the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 2015 to 2020 during the period in which he oversaw the establishment of various postgraduate programs (Data Science, Health Informatics, IT systems Engineering, and IS management) , some in collaboration with external partners and Innovation hubs. Dr. Honest teaches undergraduate courses such as Systems analysis and design, Health Informatics, Project Management, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, and Enterprise Systems.
Dr. Honest has over 20+ years being coordinating various large research and consultancy collaborative projects under the University of Dar es Salaam DHIS2 lab in collaboration with local, national, and international partners (such as Global Funds, UNICEF, University of Oslo, NORAD, CDC, Bill and Melinda Gates, SIDA, USAID, and different NGOs) whose implementations have resulted into significant impacts into Tanzania’s health systems. Some of the implemented projects are geared towards strengthening the DHIS2/OpenMRs-based Health Information System and integration with vertical health program information systems in Tanzania while working closely with Tanzania’s Ministry of Health as the main partner and other implementing partners. Dr. Honest has been a leader of the DHIS2 lab hub’s research and innovation team (comprising more than 30 + academic and technical experts) since 2002 which is involved in providing timely technical support and expertise to various implementing partners on innovative development of various digital solutions and systems for Agriculture, social welfare, Health and Education as well as integration and interoperability approaches of their related data systems. Generally, the quality and innovative work and products produced by the ingenuity and tireless efforts of the UDSM DHIS2 2 lab team have resulted in various awards and various scientific publications (in journals, conference proceedings, MSc dissertations, and Ph.D. theses) in the areas of information systems, health informatics, and Systems innovation and development over 20 + years.
