Piloting Digital MDA Reporting in CMIS DHIS2

Globally, health programmes are accelerating the use of digital platforms to strengthen Mass Drug Administration (MDA) reporting for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), improving data quality, standardisation, and use for decision-making. Integrated systems such as DHIS2 are increasingly central to this shift.

In line with this global direction, Tanzania is piloting the MDA module within the CMIS DHIS2 system to assess data entry workflows, reporting functionality, and readiness for national scale-up.

From 24 to 28 November 2025, the Ministry of Health—together with PO-RALG, regional and district NTD teams, InSupply Health, and the UDSM DHIS2 Lab—conducted a practical pilot workshop in Mkinga District, Tanga. Participants were trained on MDA, population, and advocacy data flows and tested the module in both testing and live DHIS2 environments.

Findings from the pilot are guiding system refinements, targeted follow-up support, and rollout planning, positioning Tanzania to strengthen NTD programme performance through standardised, digital MDA reporting.
