{"id":2371,"date":"2025-09-02T03:13:50","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T03:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dhis2.udsm.ac.tz\/?p=2371"},"modified":"2026-03-22T10:46:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T10:46:14","slug":"strengthening-nutrition-data-for-smarter-decisions-in-tanzania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dhis2.udsm.ac.tz\/pt\/strengthening-nutrition-data-for-smarter-decisions-in-tanzania\/","title":{"rendered":"Strengthening Nutrition Data for Smarter Decisions in Tanzania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"813\">Tanzania is advancing the use of nutrition data by integrating standardized indicators and validation rules into the national Health Management Information System (HMIS) powered by DHIS2.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"1092\">From 2\u20135 September 2025, stakeholders gathered in Dodoma to translate design into practice\u2014configuring nutrition indicators in the live system and developing a validation rule matrix to ensure that reporting is consistent, reliable, and ready for decision-making.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1215\"><strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1108\">Objective:<\/strong> Establish high-quality nutrition data entry through standardized indicators and robust validation rules.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1503\"><strong data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1250\">Leadership and Collaboration:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1250\" data-end=\"1253\" \/>This initiative was led by the Ministry of Health (Nutrition Section and M&amp;E\/HMIS Units) with the University of Dar es Salaam\u2019s DHIS2 Lab, joined by HMIS focal persons and technical experts from across the country.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1528\"><strong data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1526\">Key Achievements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<li data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1621\">\n<p data-start=\"1531\" data-end=\"1621\">Reviewed and simplified RCH and nutrition forms (labour, delivery, and child health)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1733\">\n<p data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1733\">Aligned terminologies for easier data capture and ensured continued integration of community-level data<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1798\">\n<p data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1798\">Configured agreed national nutrition indicators in DHIS2<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1799\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<p data-start=\"1801\" data-end=\"1886\">Developed a validation rule matrix to strengthen data accuracy and completeness<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1913\"><strong data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1911\">Strategic Approach:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"2184\">\n<li data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"1986\">\n<p data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"1986\">Align national and global standards to reduce indicator duplication<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"2086\">\n<p data-start=\"1990\" data-end=\"2086\">Introduce bilingual forms (Kiswahili with English in brackets) for clarity and inclusivity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2184\">\n<p data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2184\">Conduct hands-on configuration and user testing to build ownership and system confidence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2612\"><strong data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2219\">Sustainability and Alignment:<\/strong><br data-start=\"2219\" data-end=\"2222\" \/>This effort strengthens feedback loops to lower levels, promotes regular data reviews, joint supervision, and DQAs, and ensures continuous improvement through field-based learning.
