Rajab Mkomwa serves as the Deputy Technical Lead for Software Development, Innovations, and Community Engagement at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) DHIS2 Lab. With a robust background in full-stack development and a passion for open-source technologies, he plays a pivotal role in advancing digital health solutions in Tanzania.
At the UDSM DHIS2 Lab, Mr. Mkomwa has been instrumental in designing and implementing scalable health information systems across various sectors, including Health, Social Welfare, and Agriculture. His expertise in integrating Angular and React frameworks has led to the development of innovative tools that enhance the functionality and user experience of DHIS2 applications.
One of his notable contributions includes the development of a flexible and robust electronic Event-Based Surveillance (e-EBS) system. This mobile and web-based platform enables timely reporting and monitoring of public health events, significantly improving outbreak detection and response in Tanzania.
Mr. Mkomwa’s work also extends to visualizing malaria risk maps to support decentralized malaria control approaches. By digitizing micro-stratification processes within the DHIS2 platform, he has facilitated data-driven decision-making for targeted malaria interventions.
Beyond his technical contributions, Rajab actively engages with the developer community. He has shared insights on integrating DHIS2 UI libraries within Angular applications during developer meetups, fostering knowledge exchange and capacity building among peers.
